Apple's Boot Camp flaw?

I have been out of the debate of the new Beta Boot Camp Software from Apple that allows to dual boot an Intel Mac into the Windows environment or Mac OS. (Of course you need to provide a valid copy of Windows.) Or does it?

There have been some reports of the the Beta Boot Camp Software not performing to what it was lived up to do. LINK.  Apparently, after you boot to windows on a few systems it will not boot back into Mac OS.  Oops.

While I recognize that this is a major problem and should be fixed, it is one of the main reasons that I did not jump at the opportunity to get on board.  (The other is that I would need to trade in my ibook for an Intel Mac. Not happening right now.)  With all the Beta software this Beta software that out on the web by big and small companies, we forget what the meaning of Beta software is.  It does not mean that it will work with all systems in all environments.  IE. It has flaws.  It is beta.  You, the users, are testing software in a larger scale for the company.  Use at your own risk.  Make backups before installing.

There used to be a time, when I would have jumped at the chance to beta test software.  Not to say that I will never Beat test again, I am just now at a point where I want the software to work with as little hassle as possible.  I don't want to mess with it to make it work.  I guess that is something that has come with age.  I don't have the time or the will to use most Beta software.

Easter Weekend

Rain again has invaded the Bay Area once again. I have been told that it will leave soon and the sun will come out again. What is the point of living in the Bay Area when there is not the always great weather?

1906 San Francisco Earthquake Anniversary events got into full swing this weekend. If you live in the Bay Area it has been hard to escape hearing/reading about 1906 Earthquake stuff. Since Anne is with Wells Fargo, I have been exposed to more 1906 Earthquake then most.

Hike: Wildcat Canyon

Here are a few shots of the weekend hike at the Wildcat Canyon Park that Anne and I went on with her aunt and uncle.  We had a good time and really enjoyed the weather and beautiful views of the Bay Area.  The review of the hike said it was strenuous and we voted that the reviewer was right.

The Day in the life of Tech Support

You have to read this story from HERE or the full set of emails from HERE.  It is one of the funnest things that I read in a long time.  I have to hand it to the CentOS developer.  He really kept his cool when writing the emails and he followed it all the way through.

Pay yourself first....

I was trolling my bank, Wells Fargo, website and I notice an add for "pay yourself first." I find it interesting. Wells Fargo is piggy backing on financial gurus like David Bach among others in order to promote the use of automatic savings transfer. Just something of note. What do you think?

Weekend Adventures

It was another great weekend.  But, it was a bittersweet. For, it marked my return to work after being off all of last week.

Thursday and Friday I spent time with Anne in Monterey, CA.  She was attending the CAM Conference.  I was able to attend the Thursday evening event at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and at 800 Cannery Row, Ed Ricketts House tour. It was great to be at the Aquarium during the evening. It was a different experience. The Aquarium Staff were great hosts. Pictures HERE

Friday was filled with driving around Carmel and hanging around on the beach. Being so close to the beach in San Francisco you would think that we would hang out on the beach all the time.  But, even the short drive South to Monterey, the beaches were completely different.  You wanted to be on the beach down there which is not how I feel when I am up in the San Francisco. Even with the great day that it was we couldn't escape the fog.  While sitting on the beach we were watching from the ocean consume the outer lands and us all in a matter of 30 minutes.  It was really cool to watch.

Saturday evening was the regular Dice Game up in Sacramento.  It was good to meet new people.  And the shocker of all shockers is that I took first place!!!

Sunday was the SF Ballet.  Anne and I took in the matinee performance of the SF Ballet Company mixed repertory performance.  We went because of they were performing Rodeo.  The first two acts were great too.  We sat the $10 high attitude seats, but you know they were great.  We saw most of the action and heard all the music.  I would definitely do that again.  It is can be hard to find reasonable prices for events in San Francisco.  It was a nice treat to be able to attend a great performance at a great price.

After the Ballet we headed in the rain to Zuni Cafe.  A good place to eat.  On the pricey side and you will have to wait, but good food.  Anne would suggest to sit on the upper level in the "walk way" bridge area.  You can get a good view of the prep kitchen.  You will know how every thing is prepped and when your order is coming.

Another weekend in the books.

Founders' Day Weekend: UC Davis California Iota Phi Psi Re-install and Banquet

Last weekend brought back officially the UC Davis California Iota Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi.  It has been a long road and the journey is really just beginning for the chapter.  I am ready to assist them in whatever I can provide.

The weekend also marking the founding of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity (Feb. 19, 1852) was full of events.  Friday was an informal meet up of at The Backdoor Lounge in Old Sacramento.  Great place.  I did not want to brave the Friday night Bay Area traffic to Sacramento on a holiday weekend.  If you don't know many people take the get out of town and ski mentality. Which means that all freeways to Sacramento are full of traffic.

Saturday morning was a better drive.  I chose to wait until then to meet up with others at the installation of the chapter in Davis.  It was wonderful to see the chapter back.  Lunch followed.  I then had a few hours before the Banquet.  I decided to visit my housing for the night (ie. Anne's sister's place) waiting for them time to pass and Anne to come up.  They were going to Disney on Ice and could not join me for the Banquet.

The Banquet was great.  It was good to see the new and old Brothers again.  Tryon Hubbard gave a great keynote speech.  I hope that the undergraduates Brothers were as inspired as I was with the contents of the speech.

Sunday was filled with either golf or wine tasting.  I did not attend either, but that I wanted to hang around Sacramento and visit.

The GAC is in New Orleans this year.  The site was picked well before Hurricane Katrina.  Phi Psi chose to stick with the original site.  They hope to have some community service planned during that time.  I am not sure if I will be able to go, but I am thinking about it.
